Wetlands, a term that encompasses various ecosystems, are complex environments found in all biomes. They provide essential ecosystem functions and services and, due to their “ecotone” characteristics, are hotspots of biodiversity. Wetlands are crucial stopovers on bird migration routes and provide habitats for numerous plants, animals, and other forms of life.
