In a significant development for regional collaboration on biodiversity conservation, the Observatory for Biodiversity and Protected Areas in West Africa (OBAPAO) Consortium led by the Centre de Suivi Ecologique (CSE), the Commission des Forêts d'Afrique Centrale (COMIFAC), and the Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD) have been selected by the Bureau of the Conference of the Parties of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) to host sub-regional centres for scientific and technical cooperation under the CBD.
This achievement is the outcome of a longstanding collaboration between the BIOPAMA team and these centres, aimed at fostering knowledge-sharing and capacity building in biodiversity conservation. This great achievement will enhance regional collaboration on environmental management and contribute to the global efforts to protect and conserve the planet's rich biological diversity.
The selection of CSE, COMIFAC, and RCMRD as hosts for the sub-regional centres is a testament to their respective expertise and track record in environmental management and biodiversity conservation. The centres will help build synergies and foster collaboration among the three regions, ultimately contributing to global efforts to protect and conserve the planet's rich biological diversity.
