Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI)

Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) was conceived by the Parliament Act number 10 of 2016. TARI is a semi-autonomous body under the Ministry of Agriculture, which is mandated to strengthen the national agricultural research system and activate the transfer of agricultural technologies, taking into account the context-specific needs of farmers and other stakeholders within and outside the country. Additionally, TARI plays a vital role in informing policymakers, particularly the government, by providing evidence-based insights, enabling them to make informed decisions and strategic actions to advance agriculture for the benefit of the Tanzanian.

TARI’s core mandate is to conduct, regulate, promote, and coordinate agricultural research across both public and private sectors. The Institute plays a pivotal role in developing and disseminating technologies, innovations, and management practices (TIMPs) that directly address the needs of farmers and other agricultural stakeholders throughout the country.

To ensure nationwide impact and regional relevance, TARI operates a robust network of 20 research centres  strategically located across Tanzania
