ZARI is the main Government department under the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for agricultural research. It is mandated to carry out public-good and farmer demand-driven research in soils, crops, plant protection, and farming systems, and to provide agricultural advisory services.
Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI) was conceived by the Parliament Act number 10 of 2016. TARI is a semi-autonomous body under the Ministry of Agriculture, which is mandated to strengthen the national agricultural research system and activate the transfer of agricultural technologies, taking into account the context-specific needs of farmers and other stakeholders within and outside the country.
